West Texas is a region in Texas that has more in common geographically with the Southwestern United States than it does with the rest of the state.. This part of Texas is in the Northern Chihuahuan Desert and the high mountain areas have a climate of cold nights and warm afternoons in winter; hot days and cool nights in the summer.

Population

Texas population density (2000 census)

West Texas has a much lower population density than the rest of the state. It was once mostly inhabited by nomadic Native American tribes such as the Apache, Comanche, and Kiowa until after the Civil War. It does not have as many ties to other parts of the Southern United States as does East Texas, although many of the people who currently populate West Texas are also migrants from other parts of Texas and other Southern states or their descendants. There is a very large Hispanic population, especially near the Rio Grande. Many Mexicans fled Ojinaga and walked to Stonewall during the Mexican revolution in the early days of the 20th century. Many Mexican-Americans still have close family ties in Mexico.

Silver poodles, where to find in West Texas?
Q. My gf wants a silver poodle. One of the smaller breeds (I'm not entirely familiar with the sizing, but she does want anything smaller than the regular breed) Anyway, I've been looking in the paper and can't find anyone who sells that particular color "Silver". Is silver a rare color for poodles? Anyone know where in West Texas I could find one?

A. The closest is Misery Poodles. There is one in Dallas. You'd have to have a breeder let you know when they are available. They are usually expensive w/ papers and actually bred to be show dogs, from what I've read. Wow, your gf has expensive taste in designer dogs.

Where online can I find an educated long haired man in his 40s or 50s to date from West Texas?
Q. Someone that is somewhat college educated, reads for fun, likes to hike, and rock and roll, that drinks and smokes but doesn't want kids and lives near Amarillo or Lubbock Texas.

A. I've had good success with online dating services. Most are free to join and it's a fun way to flirt online. I'm sure there are lots of Texas singles online that you can email with.

Can you tell me which flowers are sturdy enought to stand West Texas heat, without much shade?
Q. My daughter wants to have a flower pot garden on our patio, and that's fine with me, but i know i kill everything i put out there, and i hate to disappoint her right off the bat! So are there some flowers that can take the heat better than others? i never know how much to water or how often, and sturdier flowers just stand a better chance with us!

A. You can get Zinnias, Marigolds, West Texas Cobalt Sage (Salvia reptans) is really pretty too. There are some types of bluebonnet that you can plant in West Texas that is hardier than what you find near Dallas. If you have some shady areas you can get bachelors buttons, petunias, and some others. Here is a website that has some more ideas.
